Der National Geographic Channel ist ab 1. Mai auch über für Premiere-Abonnenten empfangbar. Laut Fachmagazin "Digital Fernsehen" hat Premiere das am Mittwochabend in seinem TV-Magazin "Inside Premiere" mitgeteilt. In welchem der Premiere-Pakete der Sender enthalten sein wird, ist noch nicht bekannt.
Die deutsche Version des Dokukanals startete am 1. November 2004 und ist seitdem vornehmlich in *******-Paketen von Kabelnetzbetreibern wie Kabel Deutschland, Unitymedia und Kabel BW zu sehen. Auch die IPTV-Betreiber T-Home und Alice haben den Sender im Angebot. Die Aufnahme des Kanals in die Premiere-Pakete ist ein weiteres Bausteinchen in der neuen Premiere-Startegie, das Senderportfolio massiv auszubauen. Vor Kurzem wurde z.B. bekannt, dass im Sommer der neue Dokukanal Spiegel Geschichte bei Premiere startet.

Die *******-Plattform Premiere will ihre eigene Ankündigung über die Aufschaltung des Dokumentationssenders National Geographic Channel zum 1. Mai weiterhin weder bestätigen noch dementieren. Schriftliche Anfragen der SAT+KABEL bleiben weiterhin unbeantwortet, bei telefonischen Kontaktversuchen bedauerte die Telefon********, keiner der 20 im Haus beschäftigten Ansprechpartner der Pressestelle sei derzeit greifbar. Auch Bitten um Rückruf blieben über Stunden hinweg unbeantwortet.
Premiere hatte seine Abonnenten am Mittwochabend im Rahmen des Kundenmagazins "Inside Premiere" im Fernsehen darauf hingewiesen, dass das Programmangebot von National Geographic ab dem 1. Mai über Premiere empfangen werden kann. Dass der Anbieter dies weder als Missverständnis zurückweist noch offiziell verifiziert, nährt Spekulationen, dass die Nachricht lediglich als Druckmittel für den konkurrierenden Vertragspartner Discovery Communications lanciert wurde.
National Geographic oder Discovery Channel?
Über die weitere Einspeisung der Sender Discovery Channel und Animal Planet herrschen seit Wochen Unstimmigkeiten zwischen Premiere und Discovery Communications. Der Exklusivvertrag, der bislang laut Brancheninformationen eine Verbreitung des konkurrierenden National Geographic Channel verhinderte, war Ende März ausgelaufen. Seitdem war keine Einigung über künftige finanzielle Konditionen für die Einspeisung erzielt worden. Premiere-Unternehmenssprecher Torsten Fricke hatte der SAT+KABEL noch am Mittwoch gesagt, die Sender würden "zumindest für die nächsten zwei Wochen" weiter bei Premiere verbreitet (SAT+KABEL berichtete.
Seit Wochenbeginn hatte Discovery Communications Europa darüber hinaus die deutschsprachigen Internet-Präsenzen zu seinen *******-Sendern abgeschaltet. So wird etwa Discovery.de auf den britischen Ableger umgeleitet. Der Free-TV-Ableger Dmax verweist auf seiner Website auf Programmvorschauen auf einer englischsprachigen Web-Präsenz. Auch die EPG-Informationen und die Online-Vorschau bei Premiere endeten am Mittwoch zum 30. April. Ob dies als Vorbote eines vollständigen Rückzugs aus dem deutschen Bezahlfernsehmarkt zu werten ist, wollte der Anbieter auf Anfrage bislang ebenfalls weder bestätigen noch dementieren.
National Geographic schweigt
Das derzeitige Schweigen sämtlicher Beteiligten lässt auf laufende Verhandlungen schließen, deren Ausgang noch offen ist. Ähnliches hatte Fricke am Mittwoch gegenüber der SAT+KABEL angedeutet. Die zuständige Presseagentur von National Geographic sagte der SAT+KABEL am Nachmittag lediglich, man könne diesen Vorgang leider nicht kommentieren. Auch der zuständige Ansprechpartner für *******-Vermarktung bei Fox International Channels Germany, Michael Westhoven, war für eine Stellungnahme nicht greifbar. Auch hier blieben erbetene Rückrufe aus.
